M.I

Nigerian rap icon Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has revealed his strategy for handling the immense pressure that comes with fame and public scrutiny.

The award-winning artist behind hits like ‘One Naira’ shared that he consciously prepared himself to embrace public criticism about his financial status, avoiding the trap of living extravagantly just to meet societal standards.

During a candid conversation with Chude, M.I highlighted how many celebrities fall into financial ruin by trying to maintain an unrealistic lifestyle dictated by public perception.

“Recognizing Nigeria’s culture of financial scrutiny, I had to choose whether to let that affect me. If you don’t confront this reality, it will control your decisions.

“When you’re afraid of being judged for driving a modest car or living simply, you start making choices based on others’ expectations rather than reality. That’s the fast track to financial trouble.

“Nigerians place enormous value on appearances, yet most citizens struggle financially. It required mental discipline to become comfortable with potential criticism. Many stars who flaunted wealth decades ago have since disappeared,” he reflected.
