Legendary Juju maestro Ahuja Bello has breathed his last.
The iconic 1970s musician departed on Sunday, as confirmed by his son Adetunji Bello in an emotional statement.
Adetunji revealed his father passed at 83, merely a day after celebrating his milestone birthday.
Born Ismaila Dele Bello on August 24, 1942, in Iseyin, Oyo State, Ahuja Bello rose to fame as a trailblazing Juju vocalist, guitarist, and bandleader during Nigeria’s golden musical era.
Originally trained as an electronics technician, Bello embraced his artistic calling in 1976, establishing Ahuja Bello and His Golden Eagles Band, a powerhouse that reshaped the Juju landscape.
The musical virtuoso became synonymous with electrifying performances and timeless classics like Awa ti Danfo and Ariya ti de. His 1979 London recording session for Ahuja in London sparked collaborations with international icons, including reggae superstar Bob Marley.
While a devastating 1982 accident abruptly halted his career shortly before turning 40, Ahuja Bello’s indelible contributions cemented his status as a pillar of Nigerian music heritage.
