
The hip-hop community mourns the loss of Lord Sear, the iconic DJ celebrated for his work alongside Eminem, who has died at 52.
“With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Lord Sear. His voice transcended the airwaves—he was a pillar of hip-hop culture, a mentor, and a beloved figure to countless fans and peers,” read a heartfelt statement posted to Sear’s Instagram.
“His influence on the genre remains unmatched.”
Details surrounding his passing have not been disclosed.
Born Steve Watson, Lord Sear was a New York City native whose career left an indelible mark on the music industry.
In honor of his legacy, SiriusXM will broadcast a special tribute today and Friday from noon to 4pm ET on Shade 45 (Channel 45), accessible via car radios and the SiriusXM app.
Sear became a fixture on SiriusXM in the early 2000s, co-hosting The All Out Show alongside Rude Jude on Eminem’s Shade 45. He also joined Eminem on the groundbreaking Anger Management Tour during this era.
Later, he helmed his own SiriusXM program, The Lord Sear Special, which he hosted until his untimely passing.
Eminem led tributes with an emotional post on X, writing: “Sear’s humor and energy lit up every room. Touring with him was unforgettable—his laughter was contagious.
“Our Shade 45 interviews were some of my most cherished moments. The world lost a true legend. Rest easy, Lil Trey—aka @LordSear—you’ll be deeply missed.”
