Renowned producer Samklef has boldly claimed that Olamide, the YBNL leader and rap icon, has made a more significant imprint on Nigeria’s music scene than legendary music mogul Don Jazzy.
His statement came in response to the online uproar following Olamide’s recent declaration of Wizkid as “the greatest Afrobeats artist after Fela.”
Samklef slammed critics dismissing Olamide’s opinion, arguing that they were disregarding his immense contributions to shaping the industry.
The producer insisted Olamide has earned respect for dismantling the barriers controlled by industry gatekeepers, paving the way for new talent.
In a fiery post on X, he stated, “Thunder fire anyone disrespecting Olamide! His influence is so deep even Don Jazzy takes notes.
“Olamide humbled Don Jazzy after that Headies drama and shattered the old industry power structures—that’s why Jazzy rocks this new humble energy.
“Wizkid might be king, but Olamide? That’s the undisputed street legend.”
Both Don Jazzy and Olamide are celebrated for mentoring generations of stars through their labels, though their approaches differ.
Don Jazzy first revolutionized the game with Mo’Hits, propelling Wande Coal, D’Prince, and Dr Sid to fame before birthing Mavin Records, home to Rema, Ayra Starr, and Tiwa Savage.
Meanwhile, YBNL’s Olamide crafted a legacy by elevating raw talent like Asake, Fireboy DML, and Adekunle Gold from the underground to global stages.
