The nation mourns as President Tinubu pays tribute to the legendary highlife maestro Mike Ejeagha, extending heartfelt sympathies to his grieving family, devoted admirers, and the entire music community.
Through a heartfelt statement by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu hailed Ejeagha as “a towering figure in Igbo music, whose lyrical genius and storytelling prowess immortalized traditions for future generations.”
The President emphasized Ejeagha’s unparalleled ability to weave wisdom and history into timeless songs, calling his art “a bridge between the past and present.” He added,
“Mike Ejeagha’s melodies were more than entertainment—they were life lessons, healing balms, and anthems of unity. His legacy will forever echo in Nigeria’s cultural symphony.”
Tinubu also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for honoring Ejeagha’s contributions while he lived. He prayed for divine comfort for all mourning the loss and for the peaceful rest of the departed soul.
Affectionately known as “Gentleman”, the legendary artist passed away at 95 late Friday evening. His son, Emma, confirmed the news, revealing that Ejeagha succumbed to a prolonged illness at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu.
“Though his voice is silent now, his songs will never fade,” Emma shared.
