Ex-Super Eagles shot-stopper Idah Peterside has pinpointed the crucial fixtures that dashed Nigeria’s hopes of direct qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria narrowly missed out on securing an automatic berth in Group C, finishing behind group-toppers South Africa.
This setback forced the Super Eagles into a playoff scenario, where they will clash with Gabon later this year for a chance to progress further.
“We dominated Benin when they were leading the group,” Peterside revealed in an interview with Soccer Beat.
“Had we shown the same intensity in earlier qualifiers, things might have been different.”
“Dropping points against Zimbabwe and Lesotho in Uyo proved costly. Those were matches we should have won comfortably,” he emphasized.
