A Nigerian pastor has publicly defended Chris Okafor following accusations of an improper relationship with actress Doris Ogala, asserting that blame in such controversies shouldn’t fall solely on spiritual leaders.
In a widely shared clip, the pastor scrutinized the disproportionate criticism aimed at men of the cloth, arguing that congregants implicated in these scandals must also answer for their actions.
“If people condemn a pastor for being intimate with a member, shouldn’t the member face equal scrutiny?” he countered.
The clergyman accused those amplifying the allegations of harboring ulterior motives, alleging they sought to destabilize the church. He branded them as adversaries of faith, intent on sowing discord by “targeting the shepherd to disperse the flock.”
He suggested the ordeal would help Okafor distinguish loyal followers from detractors. Had the rumored affair culminated in marriage, he contended, the backlash would have been muted—implying disapproval stemmed from its unresolved nature.
The pastor emphasized divine impartiality, declaring that clergy and laity alike would answer for transgressions in the afterlife. “The same eternal judgment awaits all who stray,” he stated, framing the discourse as “sinners condemning those who sin differently.”
Closing with a cautionary note, he urged churches to guard against external attacks rather than participating in unfounded public vilification.
