Shina Peters

Renowned Nigerian Juju maestro Sir Shina Peters has addressed the controversial remarks made by Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), who compared his financial choices to those of banking magnate Jim Ovia.

During a sermon on wealth management at COZA 12DG, Ashimolowo stated, “Invest wisely—delayed gratification yields greater rewards. In 1990, two individuals each had ₦20 million. One constructed a lavish mansion, while the other founded Zenith Bank.”

“Today, architectural trends have evolved—what was fashionable then now appears outdated. Meanwhile, that initial ₦20 million investment has grown into a ₦20 trillion financial empire,” the cleric continued, indirectly referencing Peters’ real estate decision.

“While one individual maintains aging property, the other’s enterprise spans continents. This illustrates why patience in wealth-building matters,” Ashimolowo concluded.

The analogy drew backlash online, with veteran musician Daddy Showkey defending Peters’ legacy against what he perceived as disparagement.

Responding via Instagram Stories, Peters—now an ordained pastor—disputed the narrative while demonstrating spiritual restraint. He acknowledged Showkey’s advocacy but declined confrontation, citing his Christian commitment.

“Gratitude to @daddyshowkey for highlighting this issue. Though the claims are factually incorrect and demeaning, as God’s servant I choose grace over litigation,” Peters wrote.

“Divine favor has sustained me remarkably—those within my circle understand this truth. Similarly, @matthewashimolowo.official enjoys God’s blessings. What truly matters is how we steward our blessings to inspire others.”

Shina Peters

Renowned Nigerian Juju maestro Sir Shina Peters has addressed Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) following the clergyman’s remarks comparing his financial choices to those of banking magnate Jim Ovia.

During a sermon on wealth management at COZA 12DG, Ashimolowo stated, “Delaying gratification is key to lasting prosperity. In 1990, two individuals each had ₦20 million—one invested in real estate, the other in banking infrastructure.

“Three decades later, architectural trends have evolved beyond what that 1990 mansion could offer, while the banking venture has grown into a multi-trillion naira institution. I reference musician Shina Peters’ property investment versus Jim Ovia’s Zenith Bank foundation—not as criticism, but as a financial case study.”

“One now maintains aging structures; the other’s enterprise spans continents. This illustrates why strategic patience elevates destinies,” the pastor concluded.

The analogy drew mixed reactions online, with veteran musician Daddy Showkey defending Peters’ artistic legacy against perceived disparagement.

Responding via Instagram Stories, Peters—now a pastor himself—disputed Ashimolowo’s narrative while demonstrating spiritual restraint. He acknowledged Showkey’s intervention but emphasized his commitment to Christ-like conduct over litigation.

His statement read: “Gratitude to @daddyshowkey for highlighting this issue. While I could challenge these misleading claims legally, my devotion to Christ’s teachings supersedes personal grievances.

“Divine favor has graced my life in immeasurable ways—blessings that transcend material valuation. Similarly, God has prospered @matthewashimolowo.official. Our shared responsibility is modeling righteous stewardship of these blessings. To my global supporters: may Heaven’s abundance remain upon you.”
