Papa Ajasco

Renowned Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has revealed the struggles he continues to face despite his legendary portrayal of the beloved character Papa Ajasco.

In a candid conversation with broadcaster Lucky Udu, Ayoyinka shared how intellectual property restrictions surrounding the iconic role have hindered his career growth beyond the Wale Adenuga Productions franchise.

The seasoned performer disclosed that legal ownership of the Papa Ajasco persona prevents him from leveraging the character for independent ventures or corporate endorsements.

“The biggest challenge is that Wale Adenuga Productions holds the rights to Papa Ajasco. Brands want me exclusively in character, but contractual limitations make it nearly impossible,” he confessed.

Ayoyinka emphasized that even minor details like the character’s distinctive costume require explicit permission for use.

“I’m restricted from using the name or wardrobe without approval. The character’s overwhelming popularity overshadows my personal identity,” he lamented.

The veteran actor recounted his previous civil service tenure with Lagos State’s Ministry of Tourism before retiring half a decade ago.

Reflecting on his current circumstances, Ayoyinka painted a sobering picture of his post-retirement life.

“These past years have been particularly tough. Without personal transportation or property, every day presents new challenges,” he revealed.

Ayoyinka’s portrayal of Papa Ajasco in the classic Nigerian sitcom Papa Ajasco & Company cemented his place in the nation’s entertainment history.
