Bright Chimezie

Renowned highlife legend Bright Chimezie has called on Africans to prioritize building their continent rather than relentlessly pursuing opportunities abroad.

During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Chimezie addressed Africa’s persistent over-reliance on Western nations, expressing concern over the widespread belief among youth that prosperity is unattainable on home soil.

“Africans must carve their own path. Our challenges lie here, yet we keep sustaining others abroad,”
he emphasized.

The iconic artist, celebrated for blending indigenous sounds with thought-provoking lyrics, dismissed the illusion that foreign nations offer superior success.

“Many think opportunities flourish elsewhere, but that’s a mirage. I’ve traveled extensively—it’s not greener out there. The real potential is right here, waiting to be unlocked.”

Chimezie cautioned that relocating abroad often means starting from scratch with menial jobs.

“Here, you can shape industries, innovate, and build. There, you’re just another worker, maybe even scrubbing floors.”

He also attributed Africa’s economic and mental subjugation to colonial legacies.

“The colonial agenda distorted our self-worth. The systems they imposed still haunt our aspirations today.”

According to him, redirecting Africa’s fervor for religious study toward science and technology could accelerate development.

“Imagine if we pursued algebra and engineering with the zeal we reserve for scripture—Africa would have leaped forward by now.”

Affectionately known as the “Ziggima Sound King,” Chimezie remains a cultural beacon, using his music to champion self-sufficiency and indigenous pride.
