In a decisive move to bolster security, the Osun State Police Command has launched a crackdown on vehicles and motorcycles displaying covered, tampered, or unregistered license plates. This initiative aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, aiming to dismantle avenues criminals exploit for anonymity.
Issuing a public notice on Tuesday in Osogbo, Police Spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi disclosed that CP Ibrahim Gotan has mandated area commanders and divisional officers to seize non-compliant vehicles while conducting in-depth investigations as permitted by law.
The operation will also clamp down on vehicles with counterfeit, altered, or improperly documented plates, with strict enforcement measures promised against violators.
Authorities emphasized that all road users—including private motorists, commercial transporters, and fleet managers—must ensure their vehicles display authentic, clearly legible registration plates without obstruction.
The police clarified that the measure is a strategic effort to aid crime detection, suspect tracking, and overall security enhancement rather than an unnecessary burden on compliant citizens.
Reiterating their dedication to safeguarding lives and property, the Command encouraged public cooperation and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
The statement assured that officers involved in the operation have been directed to maintain professionalism, uphold civility, and strictly adhere to legal protocols during enforcement.
