Victor Osimhen

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has dismissed concerns about chasing Rashidi Yekini’s legendary goal tally for Nigeria, emphasizing his commitment to team success over personal milestones.

The Napoli star, however, remains optimistic about eventually matching Yekini’s historic achievement.

Osimhen shared these thoughts during a post-match press conference after leading Nigeria to a commanding 3-1 victory over Uganda in their AFCON group stage clash.

The prolific striker now sits just five goals shy of Yekini’s all-time Super Eagles record of 37 international strikes.

With 32 goals to his name, the 27-year-old remains focused on collective triumph rather than individual glory.

“Wearing the armband today filled me with immense pride,”

“Right now, breaking records isn’t my priority—what matters most is how we perform as a unit,” Osimhen stated following Nigeria’s decisive win.

“My focus is on contributing through goals and assists. While I may not reach Yekini’s mark during this tournament or qualifiers, I’m confident that milestone will come in time.”
