Galatasaray’s prolific forward, Victor Osimhen, has been officially confirmed as vice-captain of Nigeria’s national football team. This decision follows a major leadership overhaul after the retirement of former skipper William Troost-Ekong, who was also the team’s previous penalty taker.
Ndidi, the team’s newly designated leader, steps into the role as captain after last week’s announcement. Osimhen’s appointment comes amid a transitional period for the Super Eagles, with experienced players like Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon remaining key figures due to their decade-long service.
Iwobi currently holds the record for the most appearances in the squad, closely followed by Simon. However, sources reveal that Osimhen’s relentless dedication and passion for the Super Eagles played a decisive role in his selection as Ndidi’s deputy.
