France Football, the governing body behind the Ballon d’Or, unveiled the shortlisted nominees for the 2025 ceremony on Thursday.

Only three African stars have been named in the Ballon d’Or’s prestigious 30-player shortlist.

These players delivered outstanding performances for their clubs over the past season.

The trio includes Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.

Salah guided Liverpool to Premier League glory while also securing the Golden Boot as top scorer.

Hakimi was instrumental in Paris Saint-Germain’s triumphs in the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and the French Cup.

Guirassy shined for Dortmund in both the Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup, notably scoring against Real Madrid in the knockout phase.

France Football, the award’s organizers, announced the 2025 shortlist following deliberations by prominent journalists worldwide.

The selection process involved input from respected football journalists across the globe.
