Omawumi

Nigerian songstress Omawumi recently revealed how veteran producer Cobhams Asuquo played a pivotal role in shaping her musical journey.

During an exclusive interview with Hip TV, the acclaimed vocalist shared the behind-the-scenes story of their first creative collaboration.

Omawumi recounted receiving an unexpected call from Cobhams that would alter the trajectory of her career.

“He reached out saying, ‘Omawumi, this is Cobhams Asuquo—always with that signature introduction,” she recalled with a smile. “There’s a track I’d love you to feature on. No promises, but let’s create something special.”

That spontaneous session led to her breakthrough national campaign, landing her a two-year brand ambassadorship. “Cobhams showed me the artistry in vocal delivery and stage presence—those subtle details that elevate a performance,” she revealed.

The Idols West Africa alumna, whose soulful hit ‘Bottom Belle’ remains a fan favorite, acknowledged Cobhams as one of the early visionaries who recognized her talent.

This landmark collaboration became the springboard for multiple endorsements and high-profile projects, cementing Omawumi’s place in Nigeria’s music industry.

Asuquo—renowned for crafting hits with A-list artists including Asa and Timi Dakolo—continues to be celebrated as one of Africa’s most innovative music producers.
