Omah Lay

Afrobeats star Omah Lay recently opened up about his initial belief that Davido harbored resentment toward him—a misunderstanding that dissolved once they connected, leading to their Grammy-nominated hit, With You.

During an exclusive GRAMMY 2026 red carpet interview with OkayAfrica, shared by HYPETRIBE, Omah Lay recounted how his perspective shifted after stumbling upon a video of Davido vibing to his music.

The singer revealed that the moment arrived during a personal low point, making Davido’s unexpected support even more impactful.

“I was at home, going through a rough patch, when I saw Davido reacting to my song. I completely lost it,” he confessed.

Omah Lay admitted he had previously assumed tension existed between them.

“I genuinely thought there was some unspoken beef. I believed he wasn’t a fan of mine,” he said.

Fortunately, the misconception faded quickly once they interacted.

“We laughed it off and instantly clicked. Next thing you know—magic unfolded,” he shared.

He described their creative synergy as seamless, emphasizing how effortlessly their collaboration came together.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s dominance in the Best African Music Performance category, Omah Lay expressed pride in the lineup.

When pressed on his prediction for the winner, he grinned and said, “Davido and I, obviously. But Burna, Ayra, and Wizkid are also in the mix. Whoever wins, Nigeria shines.”

Despite Nigeria’s strong showing, South Africa’s Tyla took home the award for her chart-topping single Push 2 Start.
