Omah Lay has boldly declared himself the undisputed king of Afrobeats for this generation, stressing that his claim stems from pure artistry rather than commercial success.
The ‘Lo Lo’ hitmaker made his stance clear during a recent conversation with Capital Xtra, standing firm on the belief that his musical prowess sets him apart, regardless of traditional industry benchmarks.
“Without question, I’m the best Afrobeats artist of this decade—it’s undeniable,” he stated. Yet, the Port Harcourt-native acknowledged that metrics like chart performance, global recognition, and fan engagement might lead others to disagree.
“If you go by streams, accolades, or visibility, people might not rank me first. But creatively, no one does it like me,” Omah Lay asserted.
This isn’t the first time the singer-songwriter has staked his claim as Nigeria’s premier talent. Earlier this year, he dubbed himself the country’s top musician of the past two decades, aligning with other Afrobeats heavyweights who’ve voiced self-assured dominance in the scene.
Before rising to fame, Stanley Omah Didia honed his craft as a teen producer, later breaking through in 2020 with chart-toppers such as ‘Godly’ and ‘Damn’.
Renowned for his introspective lyricism and genre-blending sound, he has cultivated a dedicated international following, cementing his place among Afrobeats’ most influential figures.
The Grammy-nominated artist contended for Best African Music Performance in 2026 alongside Davido for their track “With You,” though South Africa’s Tyla ultimately took home the prize.
