Oliseh Speaks On Okoye’s Exclusion From Nigeria Squad After ‘He Was Torn To Pieces’ Incident (Video)

Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Sunday Oliseh has shared his thoughts on the exclusion of Maduka Okoye from Nigeria’s 28-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite making the initial 54-player provisional list, the Udinese shot-stopper was left out of the final selection by head coach Eric Chelle.

Oliseh recalled the heavy criticism Okoye faced after his last international appearance, stating the young goalkeeper was harshly scrutinized by both fans and analysts.

“After his last game for Nigeria, I witnessed this young man being absolutely torn apart—social media, TV, everywhere,” Oliseh revealed on his podcast.

“The backlash was so severe that I thought to myself, if he were my child, I’d advise him to step away from football entirely and rebuild his life elsewhere.”
