The Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has officially dismissed rumors claiming the demise of veteran Nollywood icon Lere Paimo.
Earlier, entertainment journalist and BOAN chairman Seun Oleketuyi sparked confusion by sharing a post on Instagram stating the actor had reportedly passed away at 86.
In what appeared to be a premature announcement, Oleketuyi described the actor as a resilient cultural figure who had overcome two strokes before his alleged death, writing:
“Chief Lere Paimo (MON) has sadly passed away at age 86.
“A true fighter, Baba survived two strokes.
“May his soul rest in peace.”
However, ANTP swiftly refuted these claims through an official statement from their National PRO, Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, confirming the actor remains in good health.
The statement clarified: “Contrary to circulating misinformation, Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR) remains alive and well according to direct confirmation from his family.
“The false reports appearing on social media are being spread by malicious individuals with questionable motives.
“We urge the public to dismiss these unfounded claims about Baba Eda Onile Ola.”
ANTP emphasized the importance of fact-checking before sharing unverified news, warning against the dangers of spreading misinformation.
“Always verify information through official sources before circulating potentially harmful rumors,” the association advised.
