Nollywood star Wumi Toriola recently addressed her decision to apologize to veteran actor Afeez Owo, emphasizing her deep respect for cultural values and traditions.
Their public disagreement began in September after Afeez made remarks about Wumi’s character during an interview on the African A-List podcast, suggesting her on-screen roles mirrored her real-life personality.
In the interview, Afeez noted that Wumi “doesn’t tolerate nonsense” and often reacts strongly when provoked, describing her as someone who finds comfort in assertive behavior.
Wumi, however, fired back on Instagram, dismissing Afeez’s comments as baseless and questioning the trend of airing personal grievances on podcasts.
The two actors later made amends at the premiere of Odunlade Adekola’s latest film, where Wumi humbly knelt before Afeez and sought forgiveness.
A viral clip captured the emotional moment as Afeez lifted her up and embraced her warmly after she pleaded, “I’m sorry, sir. Please forgive me.”
Reflecting on the reconciliation, Wumi took to Instagram to explain her choice, stating that she prioritizes peace and respects the wisdom of elders, even in moments of disagreement.
She posted, “As a cultural ambassador, I chose to apologize because our elders deserve reverence, not confrontation. Let’s embrace harmony.”
Her message also extended to their fans, urging them to move past the conflict, as she has embraced forgiveness and unity.
