Nollywood star Taye Arimoro has fiercely challenged his suspension by three major industry guilds—the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and Association of Movie Producers (AMP)—after a heated altercation with actress Peggy Ovire during filming for “Pieces of Love.”
Arimoro’s legal counsel, Inibehe Effiong, has slammed the guilds’ decision as “legally baseless and procedurally flawed,” citing multiple violations in their disciplinary process.
The actor’s defense hinges on three critical arguments:
- The guilds misidentified him as “Taiye Ayimoro” in official documents
- They failed to grant him proper hearing rights
- As a non-member, the organizations lack authority to sanction him
Effiong’s scathing legal notice asserts: “These associations possess zero jurisdiction over our client. Their attempted sanctions constitute unlawful interference with his professional livelihood and fundamental rights.”
The document further emphasizes that no organization can legally impose disciplinary measures on non-members, branding the suspension as “ultra vires and constitutionally void.”
Arimoro’s team has issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding:
- Immediate retraction of all sanctions
- A formal written apology
- Public notification of the resolution
Failure to comply will trigger a ₦1 billion lawsuit against the guilds and their leadership. “This isn’t a threat—it’s a promise of legal consequences for their overreach,” the notice concludes.
