Renowned Nollywood actress and director Genevieve Nnaji is gearing up for an exciting comeback in the upcoming BBC Studios drama series Wahala.

The gripping six-episode thriller, penned by BAFTA-nominated writer Theresa Ikoko, will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, featuring a powerhouse female cast.

Announced this week, the series stars Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, and Susan Wokoma alongside Nnaji in key roles.

Adapted from Nikki May’s bestselling novel, the show delves into the lives of four Nigerian-British women as they wrestle with love, ambition, and hidden traumas in modern-day London.

At its core, the plot explores the fractured friendship of three women—Simi, Boo, and Ronke (played by Adedayo, Jumbo, and Wokoma)—when their tight-knit circle is disrupted by the arrival of an enigmatic outsider, Isobel (Ayorinde).

With themes of deception, loyalty, and buried pasts, Wahala promises an intense emotional journey.

Nnaji shared her excitement about the project, calling it a compelling narrative and applauding the creative team’s vision.

This marks her most prominent acting role in years, following her acclaimed 2018 directorial debut, Lionheart, which garnered global attention on Netflix.

As one of Nollywood’s most celebrated icons, Nnaji’s return has sparked immense anticipation among fans who have missed her on-screen presence.

The series, whose title means “trouble” in Nigerian Pidgin, is produced by BBC Studios’ Firebird Pictures.
