Ariyike Owolagba, the vibrant actress and media figure better known as Ariyiike Dimples, recently opened up about a disheartening church encounter that kept her away from worship for years.
During her appearance on the ‘Open Up’ podcast, the celebrated entertainer recounted how an older churchgoer condemned her choice of a pencil skirt, warning her it would send her to “hellfire.”
This incident, which Ariyiike described as deeply judgmental, caused her to step back from organized religion despite maintaining her personal faith.
She reflected, “Community churches often struggle to connect with younger generations because of rigid traditions. There’s a way to uphold values without making people feel unwelcome.”
“After that woman shamed me and even involved my parents, I decided to distance myself,” Ariyiike continued. “I needed space from that environment of constant scrutiny. For three years, I worshipped privately instead.”
She emphasized that the skirt in question was perfectly modest—even sharing photos with her mother to prove it—but the damage was done. “My dad believed in community accountability, so I chose to remove myself from that equation entirely,” she concluded.
