Reports indicate that the late Nollywood icon Alex Ekubo and his wife, Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, are anticipating the arrival of their first child.
The revelation surfaced during the actor’s funeral rites in his ancestral home of Arochukwu, Abia State.
Per Kemi Filani’s coverage, Alex’s remains were transported to his hometown on Wednesday, June 17, for a wake-keeping ceremony ahead of his burial on June 18.
As the funeral procession paused at the palace of the Eze of Arochukwu, the monarch offered blessings over the casket, invoking prosperity for the actor’s legacy.
The traditional ruler specifically prayed for the couple’s unborn child, expressing hope that the baby would surpass the achievements of the late actor. While the pregnancy remains unverified by the family, the monarch’s words sparked widespread optimism among fans.
Anwuli Amakom Ekubo, an Executive Director at NOG Oil and Gas Limited, was publicly acknowledged as Alex’s wife during the Service of Songs. Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, who also lost his spouse years prior, comforted her with prayers and words of encouragement.
A family member shared that Anwuli’s relatives had been selective about her suitors, believing Alex was the perfect match when he sought her hand in marriage.
Grace Makun, wife of designer Yomi Casual, first disclosed Alex’s marital status while mourning him. Actress Uche Jombo later affirmed the union, recalling her visit to the couple’s home and pledging continued support for Anwuli.
Media personality Daddy Freeze reflected on Alex’s past heartbreak following his broken engagement to model Fancy Acholonu in 2021, suggesting it left a lasting emotional toll. While Acholonu publicly addressed the split, Alex had remained reserved about the matter.
