Nollywood mourns the loss of veteran actor and filmmaker Solomon Akiyesi, who passed away unexpectedly.
Abubakar Yakubu, National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an exclusive statement to The Cable Lifestyle on Monday.
Yakubu revealed that the beloved entertainer died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday. His remains have been transferred to a mortuary in Abuja.
“Sadly, it’s true. He departed yesterday. He went to rest and didn’t wake up. We’re coordinating with the family for further directives. The incident occurred in Abuja, where his body is currently placed,” Yakubu stated.
The Actors Guild has pledged full cooperation with the family as they await official details regarding funeral arrangements.
Akiyesi, a native of Ososo in Edo State’s Akoko-Edo LGA, launched his illustrious acting career in the late 90s, gracing over 100 Nollywood productions. His unforgettable performances earned him accolades across Africa’s booming film industry.
The late actor’s iconic roles in classics like Marry Who You Love, Heart of a Saint, Deadly Affair, and The End Is Near cemented his legacy as one of Nollywood’s finest talents.
