Legendary Nollywood icon Olu Jacobs was laid to rest in Lagos following an emotional memorial service at the Freedom Centre, Lekki, attended by prominent figures from entertainment and politics.

The ceremony brought together grieving family members, veteran actors, rising stars, and political heavyweights paying their last respects to the revered thespian who passed away last September at 82.

Notable attendees included Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and Nollywood luminaries like Kate Henshaw, Ireti Doyle, and OC Ukeje.

A vigil of tribute and musical homage had preceded the funeral service on Wednesday, celebrating Jacobs’ illustrious career that spanned over five decades.

Born in 1942 to Egba Alake parents, Jacobs’ passion for acting was ignited after watching Hubert Ogunde’s concert party in Kano, where he spent his formative years.

His professional journey took him to England where he honed his craft at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London, before making waves in British theater and television throughout the 1970s.

Jacobs made history in 1978 with his portrayal of President Mageeba in Sir Tom Stoppard’s political drama Night and Day, establishing himself as a force in international theater.

Upon returning to Nigeria in 1990, he became a cornerstone of Nollywood’s golden generation, featuring in landmark productions like the NTA’s The Third Eye before appearing in over 200 films.

The celebrated actor’s mantlepiece boasted numerous accolades including:
