Super Falcons’ standout goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has urged her squad to maintain unwavering concentration during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), stressing that Nigeria must avoid complacency in their quest to uphold their championship legacy.
Assuring fans of their determination, the Paris FC shot-stopper highlighted the importance of approaching each game with precision as the record nine-time champions aim to further solidify their dominance by clinching an unprecedented 11th WAFCON title while securing a spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
In an interview with NFF Media, the reigning CAF Goalkeeper of the Year cautioned against underestimating opponents, insisting the team must treat every match with equal intensity.
“Overconfidence could be our biggest enemy—we won’t let that happen,” Nnadozie declared. “Our eyes are set on both retaining the trophy and securing our World Cup qualification.”
Addressing the expanded 16-team tournament format, the 24-year-old remained unfazed, asserting that the Super Falcons are mentally and physically primed for heightened competition.
“More teams mean more challenges, but we’re ready,” she stated confidently. “Our preparation remains unshaken, regardless of the tournament’s scale.”
Drawn in Group C, Nigeria will kick off their title defense against Malawi on July 28, followed by clashes with Zambia on August 1 and Egypt on August 5.
This year’s WAFCON, hosted in Morocco, will run from July 26 to August 16, bringing together Africa’s finest women’s national teams.
As training intensifies, seasoned players like Osinachi Ohale, Michelle Alozie, and Uchenna Kanu are set to bolster the squad’s preparations in the days ahead.
