Super Eagles

Ex-Super Eagles deputy coach Simon Kalika believes Nigeria’s possible exclusion from the 2026 FIFA World Cup could diminish the tournament’s global appeal and excitement.

Kalika likened Nigeria’s influence on the sport to that of football giants Brazil and Spain, emphasizing their importance on the world stage.

“Nigeria boasts world-class talents thriving in elite European leagues, and their absence from the World Cup would deprive fans of memorable performances,” Kalika remarked in an interview with Complete Sports.

“Keeping such dazzling players off football’s grandest stage is like hiding a gem—it robs the competition of its sparkle.

“Just as Brazil and Spain elevate the tournament, Nigeria’s presence is vital. Without them, the World Cup loses commercial appeal and becomes less thrilling.

“This team belongs among the world’s best and must secure their spot.”
