Nigerian-Canadian resident Mrs. Beatrice Idebasun has publicly accused her estranged husband, Mr. Efosa Surprise Okoro, of manipulation, emotional neglect, and abandonment after allegedly using their marriage as a means to secure Canadian residency.
According to Idebasun, their relationship culminated in a legally recognized marriage on March 23, 2023, at the Federal Marriage Registry in Benin City, Edo State. She provided a marriage certificate and photographs as proof of their union, which was witnessed by family and friends.
After relocating to Canada for her studies, Idebasun worked diligently to facilitate her husband’s immigration through legal channels. Their initial application for a spousal work permit was rejected, but they later secured a tourist visa.
Idebasun alleges she invested substantial financial resources and emotional support into the visa process, including offering to cover travel expenses. However, Okoro reportedly declined her assistance, insisting on handling arrangements independently.
She was shocked to discover that he had secretly booked a flight to Canada without informing her of his travel plans. Upon arrival, he allegedly cut off all communication, leaving her in distress.
Further investigations revealed that Okoro had filed for asylum shortly after entering Canada, raising suspicions about the legitimacy of his immigration motives. These claims remain unverified by Canadian authorities.
Idebasun emphasized that her decision to speak out was driven by a commitment to transparency and legal accountability, not vengeance. “I acted in good faith, and now I seek justice,” she stated.
She expressed willingness to provide documented evidence to support her case and called on Canadian immigration officials to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Efforts to contact Efosa Okoro were unsuccessful. His mother, Mrs. Gladys Okoro, acknowledged marital tensions but remained optimistic about reconciliation. “They are married, and I believe they will resolve their differences,” she said.
