Temilade Openiyi, globally celebrated as Tems, has revealed that her musical journey has surpassed even her wildest aspirations. The Afro-soul sensation shared this heartfelt reflection during a candid exchange with fans on X (formerly Twitter).

The ‘Crazy Tings’ hitmaker responded to a fan’s inquiry about her current aspirations and past goals: “What’s next for you? Have you accomplished all you envisioned before fame?”

In her characteristically humble manner, Tems replied: “I’m embracing divine destiny – truthfully, I’ve exceeded every dream I held while working a traditional job.”

The musical prodigy began her ascent after leaving her digital marketing career in early 2018, marking her arrival with debut single ‘Mr Rebel’. Her breakthrough arrived in 2020 through the global phenomenon ‘Essence’ with Wizkid, which soared to #9 on Billboard charts following Justin Bieber’s remix feature.

2023 cemented her legacy when she became the inaugural Afrobeats songstress to claim a Grammy Award through her contribution to Future and Drake’s chart-topping ‘Wait For U’. This triumph was followed by another historic win at the 2025 Grammys for Best African Music Performance.

Beyond music, Tems earned prestigious Academy Award and Golden Globe nods for co-writing Rihanna’s emotional ballad ‘Lift Me Up’ for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, showcasing her versatility as both performer and songwriter.
