Authorities in Ogun State have launched a probe into disturbing footage showing musician Portable allegedly being mistreated while in police custody.
The viral clip captures the artist shirtless, handcuffed, and visibly distressed as he sits in what seems to be a detention facility, tearfully calling out for help.
Eyewitness accounts suggest officers physically assaulted the singer during his detention.
In the emotional video, Portable is heard crying out about his isolation, expressing that he has no one left but God.
“I lost my mother. Only God remains with me—I have nobody else,” he wept.
Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi acknowledged Portable’s arrest in an official statement but clarified it was unrelated to the alleged mistreatment.
He strongly denounced the actions seen in the video, emphasizing that the force does not tolerate brutality or public shaming of detainees.
“While he was indeed in custody for another matter, the assault depicted is unacceptable. We prohibit such conduct and the unauthorized filming of suspects,” he stated.
“Every individual, regardless of status, deserves dignified treatment under the law.”
Babaseyi confirmed that an internal inquiry is underway to identify and discipline any officers involved in the incident.
He assured that those found responsible would face legal consequences.
“The investigation is active, and if officers are implicated, they will be processed for disciplinary action immediately,” he added.
Portable’s detention follows allegations from Ashabi Simple, the mother of one of his children, who filed a formal complaint.
She accused the singer of physical abuse, phone confiscation, and allegedly threatening her and her siblings with a weapon after a heated argument.
