Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, widely recognized by his stage name 2Baba, and his spouse Natasha Idibia are currently entangled in a legal battle with their property owner over alleged unpaid rent for their Abuja residence.
The disputed property is an upscale 5-bedroom semi-detached duplex featuring a boys’ quarters at No. 27 Edwin Clerk Crescent in the prestigious Guzape district of the Federal Capital Territory.
The controversy escalated following the couple’s initial claims that the property was a familial gift, leading to widespread assumptions of ownership.
Contrary to earlier assertions, recent court filings reveal the Idibias are actually tenants of the Abuja residence.
Legal documents indicate the property belongs to a landlord who has initiated eviction proceedings, citing substantial unpaid rent as the primary issue.
Court papers reportedly state: “Our client facilitated your tenancy of the luxury semi-detached duplex with boys’ quarters at the aforementioned address for a two-year term.
“The agreement stipulated an upfront payment of ₦40,000,000, with a subsequent ₦40,000,000 installment due December 2025. However, our client’s consultancy fee of ₦7,000,000 remains outstanding despite multiple requests for payment.”
The legal notice further alleges: “After numerous collection attempts, you issued an unhonored check, fully aware of the legal ramifications of such actions.
“We find it concerning that an individual of your stature would withhold payment for services rendered, especially considering our firm’s employees rely on such income.
“We demand immediate payment of the ₦7,000,000 consultancy fee within seven days, failing which we will pursue all available legal remedies.”
