Renowned Nigerian rapper Illbliss has urged citizens to foster unity by embracing non-native residents in their states, rejecting divisive narratives that marginalize those from other ethnic backgrounds.
During a candid discussion on the Outside The Box podcast, the artist highlighted the Igbo community in Lagos as a prime example of non-indigenes playing a pivotal role in local economies. He pointed out their immense contributions to trade and commerce, which have been instrumental in Lagos’ thriving economic landscape.
Illbliss challenged the notion of exclusion by posing a thought-provoking question: “Imagine Lagos without its Igbo population—how would the city fare?” He condemned xenophobic rhetoric as counterproductive and harmful to national cohesion.

The hip-hop veteran voiced frustration over Nigeria’s lingering struggles with tribalism and religious intolerance, lamenting how these issues continue to hinder progress despite decades of shared nationhood.
He emphasized that Nigerians have no valid reason to alienate one another, stressing that such divisions sabotage collective advancement. At times, Illbliss confessed, these deep-seated rifts make him ponder whether Nigeria’s formation as a single entity was truly the optimal choice historically.
