Nigerian afrobeat sensation Shallipopi, real name Crown Uzama, has opened up about the cold reception he received from fellow artists while trying to establish himself in the competitive music industry.

Taking to social media, the “Oba Pluto” hitmaker recalled how many of his peers dismissed his early efforts instead of offering support.

The singer admitted that the harsh treatment shaped his current unapologetic attitude, stating, “I had to grow thick skin because nobody paved the way for me.”

Shallipopi first gained widespread recognition after his breakout single “Elon Musk” went viral across social media platforms.

His collaboration with heavyweight artists Zlatan Ibile and Fireboy DML on the remix further cemented his place in the afrobeats scene.

Despite initial challenges, the Benin-born artist credits a few industry veterans, including Zlatan, for giving him crucial career boosts without demanding favors.
