Asisat Oshoala

Nigerian football star Asisat Oshoala has named the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as the standout highlight of her international career with the Super Falcons.

Speaking exclusively to Ghanasoccernet, the Al Hilal forward emphasized her unwavering dedication to every tournament, treating each opportunity with equal intensity.

“Every competition holds significance because I pour my heart into every match. Whether it’s WAFCON or the World Cup, my passion remains unchanged—football is my life,” Oshoala revealed.

Yet, one event left an indelible mark.

“The 2023 World Cup in Australia was unforgettable. Our clash against the Matildas and the battle with England were defining moments,” she recalled.

Entering the tournament as underdogs ranked 40th globally, Nigeria defied expectations—holding Canada, shocking co-hosts Australia, and pushing England to penalties in a thrilling knockout duel.

Oshoala sees these performances as proof of Nigeria’s growing prowess.

“We demonstrated our evolution as a team. Even at WAFCON in Morocco, overcoming a two-goal deficit showed our resilience. That collective spirit made our triumph extraordinary,” she reflected.

Notably absent from Justine Madugu’s latest squad for pre-WAFCON friendlies against Cameroon, Oshoala will miss Saturday’s Military Stadium encounter and Tuesday’s return fixture in Yaounde.
