A Nigerian woman shares her harrowing ordeal after being incorrectly diagnosed with late-stage cancer, leading to unnecessary and life-threatening treatments.
The traumatic experience unfolded at a medical facility in Benin City, where physicians insisted she had aggressive stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, warning that chemotherapy would leave her infertile.
Under the impression that her condition was critical, she endured severe treatments, including a brutal regimen known as “Red Devil chemo,” which nearly claimed her life.
She described the facility as overcrowded with cancer patients, many of whom, including young children, did not survive. Meanwhile, the costly procedures drained her finances and disrupted her business, forcing her to relocate to Lagos for further care.
At a Lagos government hospital, doctors delivered a shocking revelation—she never had cancer. Suspicions arose when the original clinic refused to release her biopsy sample, only to later provide a man’s tissue instead.
“It’s unfathomable that medical professionals would betray trust like this. They ruined my health,” she lamented, displaying scars from the grueling, needless treatments.
Despite the hospital’s plea for an out-of-court settlement, she remains resolute in pursuing legal action to hold them accountable.
