Jacksonville State University basketball player Daniel Tobiloba Adegboyega faces serious legal trouble after being arrested and charged with first-degree rape, leading to his immediate suspension from the team.
The 21-year-old Nigerian athlete remains in custody at Calhoun County Jail, where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has also placed a detainer on him, according to jail records.
Court documents reveal the alleged assault occurred this week, with authorities accusing Adegboyega of forcing the victim into s£xual intercourse against their will.
Standing at an imposing 7 feet tall, Adegboyega had recently joined Jacksonville State’s basketball program in May after transferring from multiple schools. His collegiate journey includes stints at California Baptist University during the 2025-26 season and two years at the University of South Florida.
Originally recruited by Kennesaw State in 2022 following his time at Grand View Christian High School in Des Moines, Iowa, the center never saw playing time with the Owls before transferring.
Throughout his NCAA career, Adegboyega has maintained modest statistics, appearing in 27 games with only five starts, averaging less than one point and just over one rebound per contest.
University officials confirmed the immediate suspension in accordance with school policy regarding serious criminal allegations. It’s important to note these charges currently remain unproven in court, and the player retains the presumption of innocence.
