Afrobeat sensation Seun Kuti has sparked controversy with his bold stance on prayer, openly declaring his disbelief in its effectiveness.

In a candid Instagram video, the musician revealed that he has never engaged in prayer throughout his life.

Kuti dismissed prayer as immature, emphasizing that personal decisions and actions—not divine intervention—determine one’s destiny.

“Prayer has never been part of my life. I see it as pointless. Your existence is your prayer. Public displays of devotion are performative nonsense,” he asserted.

“How you live speaks louder than words. Your deeds are the only true prayer. When people ask if I believe in God, their narrow understanding is exactly why prayer fails.”

“If this so-called God has predetermined everything, then prayers only matter if they match some cosmic blueprint. Religious leaders won’t admit this—their power depends on keeping people ignorant,” he continued.

“I confront challenges head-on instead of begging for miracles. If prayer worked, suffering wouldn’t exist in our world,” Kuti concluded.
