Fola

Afrobeats sensation Folarin Odunlami, widely recognized as Fola, has opened up about a shocking ordeal—getting arrested and spending his first night in Lagos behind bars the very day he arrived to chase his musical dreams.

The singer behind the hit ‘Alone’ admitted the traumatic experience nearly crushed his spirit and made him reconsider his ambitions.

During a candid chat with The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Fola revealed how his determination helped him navigate Lagos’ chaotic rhythm.

“I moved to Lagos back in 2018 to focus on my music journey. It was tough initially—I’m not a native, so adjusting was brutal. But now, I’ve mastered both survival and the grind.

“On my very first day here, I got locked up in a police station. It’s a story I’d rather forget. That night almost made me quit everything,” he confessed.

Fola’s career skyrocketed after joining Bella Shurmda’s Dagbani Republik in October 2024.

Following his breakout single ‘Alone’, he’s worked with industry heavyweights like Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.
