Nollywood star and political figure Tonto Dikeh has opened up about the downfall of her music career, attributing it to toxic friendships that steered her in the wrong direction.
The actress shared her thoughts on Friday while performing a rendition of Don Moen’s ‘God is Good’ on Instagram.
Dikeh, now 40, reminisced about her short-lived stint in music, which kicked off in 2013 with tracks like ‘Hi’, ‘Crazically Fit’, and ‘Jeje’, alongside collaborations with artists such as Solid Star and Terry G.
She admitted that her unsuccessful music venture stands as a cautionary tale about surrounding oneself with the wrong crowd, advising followers to be mindful of the company they keep.
Jokingly, she remarked that if she had possessed genuine vocal talent, she could have eclipsed the success of icons like Tiwa Savage, Cece Winans, or Whitney Houston.
“If I could actually sing, trust me, you all would’ve been tired of hearing my name,” she quipped.
“Seriously, who would Tiwa be? Who would Whitney or Cece Winans be? Please!
“This video takes me back to a time when I had the absolute worst friends who pressured me into dropping an album.
“To those so-called pals—your VIP seats in hell are booked. Lesson learned: pick your circle wisely, and above all, use your own judgment.”
