Controversial actress Angela Okorie has been detained at the Suleja Correctional Facility following accusations of defaming her colleague, Mercy Johnson.
The Abuja High Court ordered her remand on Wednesday after authorities took her into custody.
Stanley Ontop, a vocal filmmaker, criticized the legal proceedings, questioning the swift judicial action in this case.
He accused Mercy Johnson of leveraging undue influence, emphasizing that defamation should be treated as a civil matter rather than a criminal offense.
In an Instagram post, he stated: “Free @realangelaokorie immediately! If someone feels defamed, they should file a civil suit—not weaponize the police. When will Nigeria’s justice system function properly?”
“How can you sleep peacefully knowing a fellow actress is behind bars? Angela, I stand with you,” he vowed.
Okorie was reportedly apprehended in Lagos late Tuesday before being transferred to Abuja the following morning.
