Nollywood star Olumide Oworu has opened up about his motivation for stepping into Nigeria’s political arena, emphasizing the need for younger voices in leadership.
During a candid conversation on Naija FM Lagos, the 31-year-old actor-turned-politician shared his concerns about the nation’s direction, stating that ineffective governance pushed him to seek change from within.
Oworu highlighted Nigeria’s steady decline as a driving force behind his political ambitions, expressing his desire to contribute to safeguarding the country’s future. He pointed out that outdated leadership perspectives among current officeholders further solidified his resolve.
“I entered politics out of necessity. The Nigeria I knew as a child is fading, and I refuse to stand by while it crumbles. I plan to build a life and family here—how can I expect a better tomorrow if I don’t help shape it today?
The older generation won’t face the consequences of today’s policies—we will. That’s why my peers and I must step up now,” he asserted.
“If we keep waiting for change, nothing happens. I want my children to inherit a Nigeria that works—not one broken by inaction.”

In 2023, Oworu ran for the Lagos State House of Assembly under the Labour Party, targeting the Surulere 1 constituency seat. Though defeated by incumbent Desmond Elliott, the actor remains committed to his political vision, vowing to continue advocating for systemic reform.
His journey reflects a growing trend of Nigerian entertainers transitioning into activism and governance, driven by calls for generational shifts in leadership.
