Renowned Kannywood star, Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, has issued a heartfelt plea for public assistance as he continues his grueling fight against cancer, a diagnosis he has struggled with for close to two years.
A widely circulated social media video captures the actor, famed for his role in the Dadin Kowa series on Arewa 24, detailing his ongoing medical journey—spanning one year and seven months of intensive treatment.
Mr. Yakubu confessed that the exorbitant costs of therapy have left him financially exhausted, despite aid from friends, clerics, and colleagues in the entertainment sector.
“I am deeply grateful to all who have stood by me—religious groups, the Arewa 24 team, and Kannywood Vanguard,” he expressed.
“I humbly seek forgiveness from anyone I may have wronged. My current situation is dire: ₦250,000 every 21 days for injections alone, plus ₦51,000 per hospital stay. Your kindness will save me. May Allah bless us all.”
The esteemed actor, originally from Yobe State, previously revealed in a BBC Hausa interview (2021) that his acting career began in 1986. Remarkably, he has authored more scripts than he has performed in throughout his prolific career.
Mr. Yakubu, a father of 10 and a husband to three wives, continues to seek urgent support during this critical period.
