Dan Ulasi

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has voiced his support for the potential return of former Labour Party presidential flagbearer Peter Obi to the PDP before the 2027 elections.

Ulasi shared his perspective during a recent interview on Arise Television, where he also took aim at Nigeria’s political framework, labeling it as deeply dysfunctional.

The seasoned politician argued that true democracy remains elusive in Nigeria, as most elected officials rely on patronage rather than grassroots support to attain power.

He lamented that this system discourages independent leadership and breeds instability, with politicians frequently turning their backs on their sponsors after securing influential positions.

“I’ve maintained that what we practice here isn’t democracy—it’s merely civilian rule.

“Can you name anyone who has independently financed their journey from councillor to chairman, governor, legislator, or even president without external backing?” he questioned.

Ulasi added that Nigerian politics has devolved into a profit-driven enterprise, where securing public office requires exorbitant financial commitments.
