Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick has refuted accusations of financial impropriety concerning the FIFA Goal Project in Kebbi State, describing them as unfounded.
The issue arose after FIFA shared images of the incomplete Benin-Kebbi Stadium on social media, sparking public outcry over potential mismanagement of project funds.
During his discussion with ARISE News, Pinnick labeled the criticisms as “misinformation,” underscoring FIFA’s stringent audit controls for all Goal Projects.
“When FIFA allocates funds, they track every detail—nothing goes unchecked. The contract was valued at $1.1 million in 2020, which converts to roughly ₦400 million, a fact many overlook,” he clarified.
He affirmed that the project adhered strictly to protocols, with no budget revisions despite pandemic-related delays.
“No adjustments were made, even with the hurdles we faced. The process was transparent. Criticism may be directed at me, but Nigerian football should remain the priority,” Pinnick added.
The former NFF chief called for evidence-based discourse, maintaining that his tenure upheld accountability at every stage.
While FIFA’s Goal Project seeks to enhance global football infrastructure, its execution in Nigeria has been met with skepticism due to delays and questionable outcomes in some regions.
