The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed that it is still awaiting a formal response from FIFA regarding its protest questioning the eligibility of certain Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) players in the 2026 World Cup African playoff against the Super Eagles.
Contrary to circulating media reports, the NFF refuted claims that its appeal had been dismissed, stressing that the matter remains pending before the world football governing body.
Addressing the rumors, NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi, emphasized that no official communication from FIFA has been received concerning the status of the petition.
“The Nigeria Football Federation submitted a formal complaint to FIFA regarding potential ineligible players fielded by DR Congo. Any updates will be officially communicated to us,” Sanusi clarified during an appearance on AIT.
“At this time, we have not received any correspondence from FIFA denying or dismissing our petition. Our records show no such communication.”
He challenged those spreading the claim to provide evidence, stating, “Unless someone within FIFA is leaking information prematurely, there is no basis for these reports.”
