Emeka Rollas, the immediate past president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has verified that Abubakar Yakubu, the guild’s newly elected leader, was implicated in a tragic road mishap.
As previously reported by Amonpoint News, Yakubu was detained following the incident, which occurred late Tuesday in Surulere, Lagos.
In an official statement released Thursday, Rollas clarified that Yakubu’s car suffered an unforeseen brake malfunction, causing a collision that tragically took the life of a young child.
He emphasized Yakubu’s full cooperation with authorities and first responders, noting that the injured mother is undergoing treatment.
Rollas revealed that AGN representatives have personally extended sympathies to the grieving family, stressing Yakubu’s profound remorse over the devastating event.
The statement continued, “The Actors Guild of Nigeria mourns the heartbreaking accident involving President-elect Abubakar Yakubu on December 9th in Lagos.
“This unforeseen tragedy, caused by sudden brake failure, resulted in the loss of an innocent child’s life and left the mother hospitalized.
“Mr. Yakubu immediately assisted emergency services and has since worked closely with investigators. Guild leadership has personally comforted the bereaved family, demonstrating our shared sorrow.
“Through compassionate dialogue, all parties have acknowledged this as an unavoidable tragedy without malicious intent. We’re grateful for the family’s extraordinary forgiveness during this painful time.
“While physically unharmed, Mr. Yakubu remains emotionally devastated, offering continuous prayers for the deceased child’s soul and the mother’s complete recovery.
“Such incidents painfully underscore life’s unpredictability, affecting individuals regardless of background. As a unified community, we urge members and the public to avoid speculation and instead extend prayers to everyone impacted.
“The AGN reaffirms our dedication to safety and mutual support. During this period of mourning, we request privacy and sensitivity for all involved as they navigate this profound loss.”
