Nollywood star Juliana Olayode has openly criticized the misuse of the viral “Holy Spirit, carry me” trend by social media users, urging for greater reverence toward faith.
Taking to Instagram, the actress expressed discomfort with humorous captions that trivialize spiritual themes, such as “Holy Spirit no carry me because of my big nyash,” calling them disrespectful.
She challenged those joining the trend to reconsider their words, asking, “Do we really recognize who the Holy Spirit is?” before stressing the importance of maintaining sacred reverence.
Her post read, “Asking the Holy Spirit for guidance is a powerful prayer, but turning it into a joke for likes crosses a line. When I see captions like ‘Because I get weight’ or ‘He no like small things,’ it feels wrong.”
“This isn’t just another trend—it’s about honoring the divine. Other faiths treat their sacred names with the utmost respect, but we sometimes forget the weight of ours. Let’s not make the Holy Spirit a meme.”
“Yes, we love fun and vibes, but not at the expense of what’s holy. Joy doesn’t have to mean carelessness—especially when it concerns the Spirit of God.”
The trend, where users humorously plea for divine intervention—often with the Holy Spirit depicted as a bird—has gone viral on TikTok, drawing participation from top actresses like Funke Akindele and Mercy Johnson.
