Afrobeat artist Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has publicly urged law enforcement to expedite investigations into the tragic demise of his former protégé, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
The musician made this appeal during a live-streamed session on his YouTube platform earlier this week.
Emphatically denying any involvement, Naira Marley demanded the re-arrest of himself, his associate Sampson Balogun (alias Samlarry), and all individuals linked to Mohbad’s untimely passing.
He further insisted on the appointment of an impartial officer to oversee the high-profile case.
“I returned to Nigeria voluntarily to aid the police investigation, particularly since allegations were being directed at us. My intention is clear—to ensure justice prevails for Mohbad,” he asserted.
“I endured two months of detention at Panti. Following my release, I fought to reclaim my passport. While I understand the need for questioning regarding Mohbad’s death, there was no justification for my prolonged confinement. I hadn’t seen him in over a year. There was a clear conspiracy against me, evident from leaked group chats that even implicated the investigating officer.
“To ensure transparency, I suggest re-arresting all suspects under the supervision of a trusted investigator,” he declared.
The controversial artist also disclosed an agreement with Mohbad’s legal team to transfer all royalties to whichever family member the court deems fit to manage the late singer’s estate.
Mohbad’s controversial death occurred on September 12, 2023, with Naira Marley and Samlarry initially being prime suspects.
After two months of detention at Panti’s State Criminal Investigation Department in 2023, both were released upon meeting stringent bail conditions.
Owodunni Ibrahim (Prime Boy), Mohbad’s childhood friend, was similarly detained before being granted bail.
In a July 2025 interview with activist VeryDarkMan, Prime Boy categorically denied rumors of a physical altercation with Mohbad during their final public appearance at the D’General Bitters Ikorodu show on September 10, 2023.
Authorities also apprehended Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse accused of administering fatal injections to the deceased artist.
The Lagos State Coroner’s Court, referencing testimonies from independent forensic experts, cited the body’s advanced decomposition as hindering conclusive autopsy results.
Magistrate C.A. Shotobi emphasized, “No evidence of foul play was found, though medical negligence appears to be a contributing factor.”
The court subsequently directed the Director of Public Prosecutions to initiate legal proceedings against nurse Ogedengbe.
