Renowned Nollywood star Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about her struggles with movie financing, admitting she’s poured over ₦80 million into film projects with little return.
Since last September, she has invested heavily in multiple productions but hasn’t recovered even a fraction of her expenses, leaving her questioning the viability of her filmmaking pursuits.
Frustrated by the lack of audience engagement with underpromoted movies, she hinted at shifting focus from production to exploring new opportunities, like international travel.
Expressing her exasperation, she posted: “I’m throwing in the towel… Over 80 million spent on movies since September, and not even 1 million in returns? Enough is enough! 🙏
“If y’all won’t watch films unless they’re hyped to the moon, I’m done trying… Back to jet-setting for me!
Even when we showed up, it didn’t help. Game over abeg!”
Her candid revelation sparked a wave of reactions online, with fans and colleagues rallying behind her.
Fellow actress Tonto Dikeh urged her to persevere, vowing to amplify her projects: “Quitting? Absolutely not! Need promotion? Tag me – we’ll flood the internet with your work.
You’ve supported others; now let’s return the favor. Failure isn’t an option here. Period.”
